Expedia review and why they suck!

I will no longer be booking my travels through Expedia. There are definitely better options to book your travels. Travelocity, Priceline, Orbitz, Kayak, and Hotwire to name a few.  You would have a better experience choosing any one of these travel websites.  After the poor customer service and attention that Expedia showed to me and my girlfriend, Expedia will never be one of my choices to book a trip again.

The price seemed perfect for the trip we were booking, hotel and flight to Disney, Florida all for less than $300 per person. How could you beat that? I have used Expedia before and never had any problems. Well that all changed on September 17th, 2010. My girlfriend and I packed everything the night before, set the alarm and went to bed. The alarm rang, we got ready and off we went on our way to Newark Airport for a much needed vacation. Halfway up the Garden State Parkway, I mentioned that we might be running to the terminal, one of those ah ha moments I would soon come to realize.

My girlfriend started looking through her purse for her license, low and behold it was gone. So without any hesitation I turned the car around and headed back home to pick up an alternative means of identification. On our way back to the house, she called Expedia and asked if there was any way that we could change our flight to a later flight. After a little bit of waiting the customer service representative stated that there would be a $100 per ticket change fee administered. That did not include the fee that we would incur if the flight was more expensive than originally booked. After the representative checked the itinerary she stated that we would incur a $600 charge to change our flights, let alone that we would have to wait almost 8 hours for our next flight, due to Expedia requiring 6-8 hours to change our flight information. With the amount of business they handle and the technology that we literally have at our fingertips why would they need 6-8 hours to change our flight. Not only would we have to pay $600 but we would also be required to wait until 2:30 to catch the next flight. My girlfriend told the customer representative that we would contact them in a few minutes after some thought and deliberation. During our brief conversation we decided to contact Jet Blue, our flight carrier, booked through Expedia.

During the conversation with Jet Blue we were informed initially that we would incur a $40 per ticket change fee. What a huge relief to my ears, from a potential $600 fee to only $80. Then my girlfriend tells me the representative just needs to make sure that was correct. After about 5 minutes Jet Blue told her that we would only be liable for $80. How is that I thought? How can a company like Expedia feel they are in the right and charge a $100 per ticket change fee, and charge an additional $200 per ticket for a different flight, when Jet Blue only charged us for the change of itinerary. I understand companies need to make money, but to try and overcharge customers almost $500 is just not acceptable and does not seem to be a great business model.

As we are flying down to Orlando for our short vacation only a mere four hours after our original flight time, I vow to never use Expedia again.

Mickey and Minnie here we come.

Well this is definitely an eye opener! Will consider NOT using Expedia when traveling. I know they have a no refund policy for canceling a Hotel room as well.

I agree, these Expedia, TripAdvisor, and all those kinds of sites are dangerous to use. A great alternative to hotels, actually are vacation rentals. MetroFlats.com is a great place to look at your cheaper, more reasonable options. They offer some great prices that would be competitive against many hotels (they can get pretty expensive). Check it out and let me know what you think! :)
